Summer Break!

 Well, it's that time of year when the kids are on break from school, so their parents decided that their kids would be on break from tutoring as well. That does give me more time to do other things, like work on the novel that I'm writing. But it also reduces my income! I still have my pet sitting jobs, but not enough yet for the summer. I've really got to pinch pennies this summer! 

I love tutoring, so I miss it, as well as the kids I work with. I am also a substitute paraeducator for the local elementary schools, so when I saw on the school district's web page that they are hiring regular paraeducators for the next school year, I applied for the job! I hope I hear back from them soon! 

Well everyone, enjoy your summer break, but kiddos, don't forget what you learned with me. I'll need to do some review to see what you remember.😉

Starting High School!

 Okay, so this boy isn't one that I actually tutor. He's autistic, and I just make sure he gets up in time for school and make him breakfast, then take him to school. Today is his first day of high school!  I asked him if he was excited about starting high school, and he said no. I asked him if he was nervous, but the thing he was worried about was that he wouldn't see any of his middle school teachers anymore. And he had a new class schedule to learn, and wasn't sure he would know where each class was, and how to get there on time.  I told him to just check in the office if he didn't know where to go next. I remember starting high school, even though it was so long ago. It took me about a week to feel confident about knowing my schedule and where my classrooms were.  I'm sure he'll do fine once he adjusts to a new school. "I Never Get Homework"

 I was just working with the second-grader that I tutor, and her task was to figure out which words fit into five given sentences. We are using a workbook that I don't let any of the kids write in, because they need to share. So I told her just to read the sentences and point to and say the words that go in the blanks. But she asked me for a piece of paper, so I gave her one. She started out by writing the words that would go in the blanks. Then she started writing the sentences, blanks included. I told her that she didn't need to do all of that, all she needed to do was to read. But she told me that she was in second grade and never got any homework, only with her mom and me. So she wanted to write the sentences out.  I thought it was cute of her to say that. I noticed that she was crowding the lines as she wrote, though, and leaving letters out of words. So I found myself thinking that she does need practice writing sentences. It's good to see what areas she needs practic...

St. Paddy's Day 2026!

 St. Patrick's Day! I love wearing green on that day. I love getting into any holiday. And apparently does one of the students I stay with before she goes to school.  I only saw her that day, so, unlike last year, I only got her picture. I also got a photo of the neclaces I was wearing along with my green shirt.  It was a fun day anyway, despite not seeing if the other kids were wearing green as well. My family and I had a traditional St. Patrick's Day dinner - Irish soda bread and corned beef! (No cabbage for us) I hope you had a fun day, and I hope you got into the holiday spirit and put on some green yourself!  I was waiting in line to pick up some medication, and there was a really long line. So I started talking to the elderly man in line behind me. He was wearing dark green pants and a green shirt, which he said was completely by accident that he was wearing them that day!
