Trains of Thought
There is one young man (sixteen years old now) who I help get ready for school weekday mornings, who i believe is on the autism spectrum. This doesn't really apply to tutoring, but I felt like I wanted to talk about it. He likes to talk about things he's interested and ask questions when he's curious about something. We like to have conversations about what we see as I'm driving him to school, conversations that are pretty much the same every day. I try getting him to talk about something else, like something I did or saw. but he has it on his mind to talk about what's on his train of thought, but nothing can derail it. I've also learned that it's better to ask him about something without giving him options, like do you want ( ) or ( )? Usually he'll just look at me and not say anything.
