Seeing him again!

 I have lately been tutoring three of the five usual kids that I have on my tutoring list. I have missed seeing the two boys that I haven't tutored since before Christmas. I finally got to see one of the boys that I have tutored in math and English! At first, he didn't want to do it, probably because it's been so long since he's had to have a tutor. But he warmed up fairly quickly. After all, he does know me. But he doesn't like math, so he was very solemn during that lesson. But he is learning to multiply, so that is good. His mother said that his skills have slacked off since I haven't been tutoring him, so I know now that I was doing him some good! I hope we'll keep it up and he'll get back to where he was. 

He was happier with the English lesson. He learned where to put punctuation marks, but was having a bit of a hard time with it at first. I think I'll do a review with him, along with where to put commas in a sentence, which we also worked on today. Then he was happy that we played the "spelling ball toss" game where we throw a bean bag back and forth, each saying a letter of a word until we have finished spelling it. But since I only had his math bag (I couldn't find his English bag), I didn't remember what words we had been working on. Of course, I found it after I looked again after the lesson! Anyway, the words were way too easy. I'll re-familiarize myself with where he left on spelling, and we'll go from there next time. I'm so glad to be tutoring him again! He is a sweet 8-year-old!

Busy days!

 Hello everyone! I know it's been a long time since I've posted, but I want to start again! I have, in addition to tutoring, taken on a job as a pet sitter! On Monday this week I got done with pet sitting for a week and a half, two separate clients, two different cats. I had to come home and make sure I had prepared the three different tutoring lessons I had to teach that day - an 8-year-old, a 6-year-old, and a 3-year-old. Quite different lessons! But I was ready, and the lessons were successful. I'll go into detail about how I plan my lessons on another post. I hope you enjoy your day!

Chipped teeth

 Hello again! I just wanted to let you all know that I've recently gotten two more kids that I'm tutoring, one twice a week, once in reading and writing and once in math. The other new boy is three years old and I'm teaching him how to identify the letters of the alphabet and write his name. I now have four kids. One of the boys was at the skate park on his scooter and fell on his face, chipping his front teeth! He still told his mom that he wants to go to the skate park lol. Upside down and backwards

 Hello everyone! I've started a new blog! I'm no longer a nanny, but a reading tutor!  First off, I have to say I love my job, even though I'm only self employed.  But I do enjoy it, helping the kids learn and gain confidence, and have fun too!  I'm learning right along with them. Like how to read kids' writing upside down, especially when they are writing an S or a p or a b or a q. I need to make sure they're not writing their letters backwards, which is hard to do when you're facing them and everything is upsidedown!  If anyone has any creative ways to teach sight words or phonics, to make it fun, please feel free to share!  Have a great day!
